SalFar Final Conference

SalFar Final Conference

It’s time to save the date in your calendar! From 5-6 April 2022 the SalFar final conference will take place in Groningen, the Netherlands.

After almost 5 years of excellent transnational co-operation with colleagues from all the 7 North Sea Region countries we will conclude our project SalFar. Our multi-disciplinary approach has led to amazing results, which we regularly shared on our website and also during our mid-term conference “Saline Futures” in 2019 in Leeuwarden. The book “Future of Sustainable Agriculture in Saline Environments” is one of the major outcomes of that conference.

Now it is the Province of Groningen’s turn as lead partner to host the final conference. Please save the date: 5-6 April 2022.

We will have two days of presenting and discussing the SalFar results, including:

  • the Baseline study and policy brief by Anne Asselin de Williencourt, Norwegian University of Life Sciences,
  • the fantastic story of our field trials with a huge variety of crops, halophytes and pasture on more than 20 saline plots in various North Sea Regions by Prof. Henrik Aronsson, University of Gothenburg.
  • new business strategies for climate adaptive farming will be demonstrated by Dorte Storper from the farmer organization SAGRO, Denmark and Louise Krogh-Johnson, Food & Bio Cluster Denmark (FBCD)
  • the Inspiration Guide for Saline Farming (IGSF) presented by Wim Van Isacker, Vlaamse Landmaatschappij and Jeroen De Waegemaeker, ILVO.

We plan enough time and space for questions and discussions, as well as an international panel discussion with farmer organisations, politicians, waterboards and climate experts to continue our successful learning processes on farming in coastal regions in a changing climate.

We are proud to be able to show innovative ways for future farming and food production saving freshwater resources and leading to high quality regional products for customers who want to make a sustainable choice.

Highlight of the conference is of course the excursion to two different test fields in the Groningen coastal area: one at Kollumerward on the premises of SPNA Agroresearch, and the other one at the Ems-Dollart Delta, the Double Dyke project, which combines coastal protection with saline farming in various ways.

A detailed programme and registration forms will follow soon.
